There are several guidelines that hospitality companies use for guest interactions. One that I like is the 10-5 Rule. The idea is that when you are on property and see a guest, you smile and make eye contact with them when you are about 10 feet away and then greet the guest when you approach five feet. Guest awareness and acknowledging guests with friendly smiles and enthusiastic greetings are very important elements of superior guest service.
